The default provider model can make or break a retail choice plan. There is enough diversity and experience with default provider to warrant a thorough analysis of the subject by the Center for the Advancement of Energy markets (CAEM).

The need for reliable electric and natural gas service is an important public policy objective, and some type of default model appears essential during a transition period, and perhaps even after a more competitive market develops. States are experimenting with different models, some showing more promise than others.

This session will provide an overview of the status and overlook of competitive energy markets, and the role that default service models has played in assisting or impeding that progress.

  • What are the lessons learned?
  • What do the successful markets have in common?
  • Where are the greatest successes and greatest potential?
  • What have been the most common mistakes, and what are the remaining obstacles?
  • What should be done next?

In this session, each attendee/participant will be asked to introduce themselves and their organization and to take a minute to discuss the impact of default policy on their organization.
